Creating an Image Pairing Activity in H5P on WordPress
Match the Pics!
Hey everyone! 👋
Today we’re building something fun: an Image Pairing activity using H5P on WordPress.
It’s a drag-and-drop challenge—simple to create, clean to display, and really engaging for learners. Think of it like a visual matching game: you drag one image (say, a landmark) to its match (like a country’s flag), check your answers, and boom—instant feedback.
Let’s walk through it.
🖼️ What It Looks Like
Here’s how it works:
You’ll see a column of images on the left (e.g., landmarks), and another on the right (e.g., country flags). The task? Match them up.
You can drag images around, or just click the pair you think belongs together. Once done, click Check, and see how many you got right. You can even retry or peek at the correct answers with a Show Solutions button.
It’s clean, intuitive, and works great across devices.
🛠️ Creating the Activity
- Head to your H5P plugin in WordPress, hit Add New, and choose Image Pairing.
- If it’s not installed, no worries—just click “Get” to add it. Give your activity a title (something like Landmarks & Flags).
- In the instructions box, write something simple for your learners like: “Drag each landmark to the correct country flag.”
- Now for the fun part—adding your image pairs: Each pair consists of:
- A source image (this is what the learner will drag)
- A target image (the one they’ll drop it onto) For example:
- 🏯 The Great Wall of China → 🇨🇳 Chinese Flag
- 🗽 Statue of Liberty → 🇺🇸 US Flag
- 🕍 Big Ben → 🇬🇧 UK Flag
- And so on…
Just keep adding more image pairs—it’s super flexible. You could use animals, symbols, food, maps—whatever your topic calls for.
⚙️ Settings (You Don’t Need Many)
There’s really only one main option here:
☑️ Enable Retry – lets users try again after checking.
You also get text override options (like changing button text), but you can leave those alone unless you’re feeling fancy.
And yeah—it’s English-only by default, but the activity works visually in any language.
🔍 Preview It
Click Create, and take a peek.
Once it loads, you’ll see your image columns. Just drag from the left to the right, or click once to select, then click the matching image.
Got it wrong? Try again. Or click Show Solutions to reveal the correct answers.
It’s clean, smooth, and very satisfying to use.
You’re done! 🎉
💡 Final Thoughts
This activity’s perfect for:
- Geography lessons
- Language vocab drills
- Science visual reviews
- Museum/gallery quizzes
- Even product-matching or branding practice
Just one note: this is a standalone activity.
If you want to bundle it into a quiz or workbook, use a Question Set or Interactive Book in H5P.
Otherwise, it’s great as-is—simple, visual, effective.
That’s it for this one. Thanks for hanging out!
