🧠 Matching Images and Learning Geography: H5P’s Memory Game in Action
In this video, we explore how to build a Memory Game using the H5P plugin on WordPress—one of the most fun and visual ways to engage learners. The result? A fully interactive grid of cards that test memory, geography knowledge, and listening skills all at once.
The example featured in the video is a blend of world landmarks and country flags, paired with custom audio clips. Learners flip two cards at a time, matching a landmark with its country’s flag. Get it right? You’ll hear a custom success message. Get it wrong? Flip again.
🎮 How the Game Works
- 12 cards (6 pairs), hidden face-down
- Each card has an image (landmark or flag)
- Clicking a card flips it and plays an audio prompt
- Players must match:
- Landmark image + spoken landmark name
- Country flag + country name audio
- Upon a correct match, a message like “Great job!” appears
- Stats like time spent and card turns are displayed at the end
And yes, it’s harder than it looks. Especially if you mix up Big Ben and the Statue of Liberty.
🎧 What Makes It Interactive?
The game goes beyond just flipping images:
- Custom voice recordings for each card (record directly inside H5P!)
- Option to include alternative text for accessibility
- Personalized feedback after each match
- Optional custom card backs and color themes
This makes the activity feel polished and personal—ideal for both classrooms and self-paced learning.
💡 Use Cases
The memory game isn’t just for geography buffs. Try it with:
- 🎓 Language learners: Match vocabulary with pronunciation
- 🎵 Music education: Match instruments to their sounds
- 🧠 History class: Pair famous quotes with their speakers
- 🌍 Cultural studies: Connect foods, landmarks, or traditions with countries
Whether you’re reinforcing knowledge or just trying to make learning fun, this tool delivers a low-stress, high-engagement experience.
