🧃 Find Multiple Hotspots in H5P: A Visual Learning Activity on WordPress
In this video, we explore how to create a Find Multiple Hotspots activity using H5P on WordPress—a visual, interactive way to engage learners in a simple but effective selection task.
The demo example? Learners are shown six drink options and asked to “Select all the drinks that contain caffeine.” It’s part quiz, part teaching tool, and fully customizable.
🔍 What Is Find Multiple Hotspots?
The Find Multiple Hotspots module lets you create a single image with multiple clickable areas. Learners click around to identify the correct answers. Immediate feedback helps reinforce learning.
In the video example:
- 6 images of drinks (e.g. coffee, tea, soda, juice)
- 3 correct answers (contain caffeine)
- 3 incorrect answers
- Clicking a correct area gives feedback like “Great! You found one of three drinks.”
- Incorrect clicks return messages like “Please try again.”
- Clicking empty space gives a third message: “Please select one of the drinks.”
💡 Use Cases for This Activity
This type of activity isn’t just about caffeine — it’s about teaching through exploration. Use it for:
- 🔬 Science: Identify planets, classify animals, or highlight body parts
- 🌍 Geography: Find countries, capitals, landmarks
- 🍱 Nutrition: Pick healthy foods or allergens
- 🛠️ Workplace training: Spot hazards in a photo
- 🧠 Language learning: Identify vocabulary by image
Because it doesn’t rely on scoring or retries, this format is great for low-pressure learning and recall.
🛠️ Key Features of the Module
- ✅ Supports circle and square hotspots
- ✅ Immediate feedback per click
- ✅ Custom feedback for correct, incorrect, and empty clicks
- ✅ Feedback can include extra facts, great for teaching
- ✅ Can be added into H5P quizzes or interactive books
- ❌ No “Check answers” or scoring by default — designed more for active exploration
✏️ Behind the Scenes
All the setup is done inside one simple editor:
- Add a background image
- Draw hotspots over your image
- Set which are correct or incorrect
- Write custom messages for each
You then copy the shortcode and paste it into any WordPress post or page.
