🔥 Create a “Find the Hotspot” Activity with H5P on WordPress
In this video, we explore how to build a fun and simple Find the Hotspot activity using H5P on WordPress. The example? A playful visual quiz asking users to click on the hotter object — the sun or the moon.
🖼️ What’s This Activity?
This type of interaction uses an image with clickable areas (hotspots). The learner clicks on the area they think is correct — and gets immediate feedback.
In the demo:
- An image of the sun and moon
- User is asked to click the hotter object
- Clicking the sun gives positive feedback: “Great, you got it!”
- Clicking the moon or anywhere else gives custom error messages
- Feedback pops up at the click spot for better clarity
🛠️ What You Can Do With It
This activity is lightweight but powerful. You can use it for:
- Quick quizzes or visual checks
- Early education (e.g. animals, colors, shapes)
- Science basics (e.g. planets, body parts)
- Language learning (match objects to words)
- Safety training (find the hazard in an image)
You can even:
- Use custom images
- Choose circle or square hotspots
- Customize feedback per click
- Add it into a WordPress post with a simple shortcode
⚠️ What to Keep in Mind
This activity is simple, but with some limitations:
- Users get only one click per attempt
- Feedback appears immediately after that click
- You can define multiple correct hotspots, but only the first click is counted
- Best used for single-question interactions
If you want to create something more advanced, with multiple correct clicks or more complex instructions, try the Find Multiple Hotspots module in H5P.
✅ Why It’s Great
- No coding needed
- Fast setup with H5P on WordPress
- Great for visual learners
- Adds variety to your content without slowing down your site
