Creating a Drag the Words Activity with H5P on WordPress
If youβre looking for a fun, interactive way to reinforce key vocabulary or test student recall, Drag the Words in H5P is a fantastic choice. In this tutorial, I show you how to build this activity in WordPress, where learners drag the correct words into blank spaces in a sentence or paragraph.
The finished product is clean and easy to use:
π Sentences with missing words
π Draggable word choices on the side
π Instant feedback with retry and show-solution options
For example:
A week has ___ days
A minute has ___ seconds
Students drag the correct number into each sentence and check their answers. Even better, if multiple blanks share the same correct word (like β60β), H5P handles that perfectly with duplicate draggable options.
This kind of activity is ideal for:
- Reinforcing key facts and numbers
- Grammar practice, like verb forms or prepositions
- Cloze-style reading comprehension
- Matching terms with definitions or context
The sentences are created using a simple format: just wrap any word you want to be draggable with asterisks (e.g., *seven*), and H5P handles the rest. You can create lists or even build full paragraphs with blanks.
Once youβre done setting it up in the H5P editor, just grab the shortcode and paste it into any WordPress post or page β no extra coding needed.
