How to Create a Fill in the Blanks Activity with H5P on WordPress

In this video, I show you how to create a simple yet powerful Fill in the Blanks activity using H5P on WordPress. This type of task is great for language practice, vocabulary reinforcement, or any kind of sentence-based learning check.

The activity works exactly like you’d expect: learners are shown a sentence with one or more missing words, and they simply type in the correct answer. For example:

“The moon comes out at ___”

“The sun comes out in the ___”

It’s clean, straightforward, and gives instant feedback. If the answer is incorrect, users can try again or choose to see the correct solution. And of course, you can customize the feedback and settings to fit your needs.

What makes Fill in the Blanks especially useful is how versatile it is. You can use it for:

  • Grammar and sentence structure practice
  • Cloze tests for reading comprehension
  • Science definitions, historical facts, or geography terms
  • Any learning content where active recall is helpful

You can also tweak the design by adding images (optional), editing feedback messages, and removing toolbars for a cleaner look — perfect for embedding in blog posts or lessons.

Once your activity is done, you’ll get a shortcode to drop directly into a WordPress page or post. It looks seamless on the front end and works great across devices.
